Matt is currently leading Health Education England’s national Urgent and Emergency Care and Paramedic workforce programme. The programme aim is to support multi-professional, integrated workforce development across urgent and emergency healthcare in the UK National Health Service (NHS). Since 2018, Matt has delivered an award-winning portfolio of pilot and commissioned projects, including world-first research and development of Pharmacist Clinicians in Urgent and Emergency Care; development of rotating workforce strategies and multi-professional, standards-based supervision; development of new roles including Physician Associates and Advanced Clinical Practice; delivery of recruitment and retention projects for multi-professional clinical workforce; UK-first development of leadership and shop-floor clinical educator roles in Emergency Departments and development of technology-enhanced learning to support safe prescribing.

  • Showcasing evidence for multi-professional rotating workforce models – case studies highlighting the success of rotating workforce as a recruitment, retention and wellbeing strategy. Linked to this is a need for confident, accessible, multi-professional supervisors… case study evidence will demonstrate work underway
  • Discussing how to help improve retention of Speciality and Associate Specialist (SAS) doctors in emergency departments through the SAS Development and Retention Programme Toolkit
  • Highlighting how HEE support the development of urgent and emergency care staff by funding upskilling initiatives across the NHS
